Planning for the Eclipse

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

The Solar Eclipse is coming on Monday August 21st and the path runs through Idaho. Idaho residents have been told to expect a lot of traffic and that the hotels that are near the path have been booked for a long time. There are a couple of things that you can do to make the Eclipse experience easier and more fun:

1. If you haven't already gotten your Eclipse glasses, get them NOW! There are stores that are carrying Eclipse glasses, but make sure that they are one of the approved vendors. We bought ours off of Amazon made by Thousand Oaks Optical. To learn more about approved vendors by NASA, click here.

2. Plan to get your groceries ahead of time. Areas close to the Eclipse may be filled with travelers stopping by grocery stories to pick up snacks, food items, etc if you get everything you need ahead of time you can avoid the crowds. You may also want to have all your food planned out and able to prepare yourself - restaurants may be overcrowded.

3. Plan your route to see the Eclipse. There are many theories of what routes to take. Plan ahead and make sure you have a hard copy of maps and directions.

4. Plan to be patient with traffic. Traffic is going to be increased as people rush to get a prime spot for the Eclipse.

5.  Fill-up on gas before the Eclipse weekend. Gas stations may be overloaded. Fill up on gas prior to the weekend.

What are some of your tips?
