Review
Who Loves the Dragon? is a clever, entertaining and fun interactive story. The story is engaging for young children. The recommended age range for this book is for ages 3-6, but I think even toddlers ages 1-2 would like the colors, story and interactive elements of this book. Interactive books are so fun for kids. I love how it encourages kids to help cheer-up the dragon by waving, dancing, marching and more! I also love that the book celebrates friendship and helping cheer-up Dragon when he is sad. I also feel like the content is very age appropriate by encouraging kids to celebrate friendship for Valentine's Day. I also like that Dragon has a diverse type of friends ranging from animals to knights and chefs. The author also presents some coping mechanisms to children for disappointment, anger, and sadness through recommending that the Dragon count to ten, take deep breaths, relaxing and thinking about something else. The text is very kid friendly as well as the illustrations. The illustrations are attractive, bright and friendly. I was very impressed with this book and love that it's so kid-friendly in the way that it was written, illustrated and the message in the story. I would recommend checking out this book and adding it to your home library.

Review

I enjoyed reading The Sea in Winter. The characters were engaging, likeable, and realistic. The story was clean and appropriate for the age 8-12 age range. I liked that the author intermixed Maisie's modern-day struggles with her heritage and culture. I felt like the historical cultural aspects of the story made the story richer and more interesting. Personally, I felt like I understood some of what Maisie was going through. I recently had ACL surgery in the fall. I felt like the author understood some of the emotional baggage that it carries on a person. However, it felt a little irresponsible for the parents and the physical therapist to okay Maisie to go hiking so soon after surgery.  I liked that the story follows Maisie's emotional and physical struggles. Kids reading this book will learn that it's okay to reach out to your loved ones for help and to seek help when you're struggling. This story could be applied to many different struggles that kids are facing from finding their heritage, figuring out who they are, finding hope, and reaching out to family. I also liked that it demonstrated that Maisie was more than her passion for ballet. This story teaches many valuable lessons. It would be a good book to discuss in a kid's book club or classroom setting.
