Learning Time with Movement

We did a preschool/toddler learning time with movement. Here are some of the fun activities that we did:

STOMP ROCKET
For our science experiment we made a stomp rocket. To make a stomp rocket:

Materials Needed:
  • An empty 2 liter soda bottle
  • 12 in. piece of ½ in. PVC pipe
  • Duct tape
  • Clear Plastic Packing Tape
  • 6 inches of a Bike Inner Tube (not slimed)
  • Paper for the rocket
  • Plastic Bottle Cap
1. Using the duct tape, tape the inner tube to the PVC pipe.
2. Duct tape the other end of the inner tube to the empty soda bottle.
3. Using the PVC pipe as a guide. Roll a piece of paper to the tube and tape it together using clear plastic packing tape.
4. Tape the plastic bottle cap to one end of the paper tube to seal then end.
5. Make a cone for the nose and tape it onto the paper tube. (Before making the "rocket," my kids colored the paper.

To launch the rocket hold, the 2-litter bottle on the ground and point the PVC pipe up. Place the rocket on the PVC pipe. Stomp or jump on the 2-litter bottle and see your rocket fly! Since my kids are little in order for them to make it go they had to jump onto the 2-liter bottle using both feet.

M FOR MOVEMENT

Besides making the stomp rocket, we placed car, train and plane stickers on the letter M for things that move. The kids had fun using stickers especially, Disney CARS Stickers.

PARKING LOT GAME

We also played the "Parking Lot" game from the book, More Than Counting: Math Activities for Preschool and Kindergarten. If you go to Amazon and click on the preview on this book, the game instructions are included in the preview. You can test out the book and see how to play this game with your kids. My kids enjoyed playing this game with their favorite cars and played with it a while even after we were done with learning time.

What fun preschool activities do you like to do with your kids?
